Eagles get defensive - 3/4/2007 BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - For all the talk about Niagara's offensive style, the Purple Eagles have been playing stellar defense for more than a month. So they were offended when they heard that Rider forward Jason Thompson said late Friday night he was happy to play Niagara because it doesn't defend that well. Big mistake. |

Niagara follows its routine at tourney time - 3/4/2007 BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - It's easy to take for granted what Joe Mihalich has accomplished in nine seasons as the Niagara basketball coach. You'd think it was as simple as rolling out the balls every October, stepping back and waiting for the 17 to 20 wins to fall from the sky. |

Big 4 three-pointer - 3/3/2007
Loyola coach Jimmy Patsos coached Canisius' Darnell Wilson on the MAAC all-star team's 2005 tour of China and has always been impressed by the senior forward in subsequent meetings. Said Patsos: "I love Darnell. He's going to be a good player overseas, a good pro. I'm certainly going to give several people I know some calls. I want that kid to play." |

NU hockey clinches title - 3/3/2007 The Niagara men's hockey team lost to Alabama-Hunstville, 3-1, but that didn't keep it from clinching its second straight College Hockey American regular season title on Friday night. |

Regan helps doom Niagara - 3/2/2007 BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Manhattan sophomore Kelly Regan, the former Nichols School star, has spent the latter part of the season blossoming into one of the better frontcourt players in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. She was one reason the Niagara women endured a quick and painful end to their season Thursday. |

Charge against Niagara's Fisher may be dropped - 3/1/2007 NIAGARA FALLS - An assault charge lodged last year against Niagara University basketball star Charron Fisher will be dropped if the college junior can steer clear of legal trouble for six months. |

Two NU players on All-MAAC - 2/27/2007 Niagara junior Charron Fisher and senior Shaunna Ambrose were named all-conference players Monday as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced the bulk of its postseason honors for men's and women's basketball. |

Niagara enjoys some senior moments - 2/26/2007 LEWISTON - It was the last home game for seniors Lorenzo Miles, J.R. Duffey, Greg Noel and Clif Brown, a game in which a faux pas could cost Niagara a seed or two for this week's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament. |

Instead of an upset, Niagara gets a tie - 2/25/2007 LEWISTON - On paper, the tie looks pretty good. It is, after all, a point against the No. 1 ranked team in the country. Still, it was a rather unsatisfying day for the Niagara women's hockey team that could have - and probably should have - beaten Mercyhurst. |

Niagara ties Robert Morris in home finale - 2/25/2007 Niagara's men's hockey team didn't win, but it remained in position to clinch the College Hockey America regular-season crown. The Purple Eagles skated to a 3-3 tie against Robert Morris in their final home game of the season. With the tie, Niagara finished the year as the only team in the nation with an undefeated mark at home (12-0-2). |

Niagara hangs on for win - 2/24/2007 LEWISTON - What can Clif Brown do for Niagara? Try just about everything. Take away the Purple Eagles' second-leading scorer and top rebounder and you figured it could produce the same kind of struggles the team endured early in the year without star Charron Fisher. |

Big 4 three-pointer - 2/24/2007
Once in a while, it would be nice for Anthony Solomon to admit the obvious. After Wednesday's 83-44 annihilation at Massachusetts, the St. Bonaventure coach should have gone on his postgame radio show and said the no-show from front-liners like Michael Lee, Paul Williams and Tyler Relph was unacceptable. Instead, Solomon tried to gush about the four points scored by little-used center Ivan Kovacevic as some sort of beacon of hope. Please. |

Niagara making strong final run - 2/23/2007 The deck sure seemed stacked against Niagara when it started the season 1-6. Now the talk centers around trying to finish as high as possible in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. |
