Mayor Brown orders Police Department to restore media's access to crime information

Mayor Byron Brown today ordered Buffalo police to restore the media's access to crime information that had been removed from a Police Department computer in recent weeks.

The mayor said he had not been aware that the information had been removed, but that he has ordered it restored quickly.

Key information about city crime -- including the location of incidents -- has been removed from the police computer in recent weeks. Brown said that a member of the Police Department, not at the highest level, had made that decision and that he is now overriding that decision. He did not identify that individual.
