Ski resorts relishing early start

This week’s 28-inch snowfall in the Southern Tier is triggering an avalanche of early-season business at local ski resorts, beginning with to-day’s partial opening of Holiday Valley in Ellicottville.

With six trails ready to go, it is the third-earliest opening in the resort’s 51-year history. No. 1 was a mid-October opening in 1977, and second was a mid-November opening in 1995.
