Depew native helps girl end hiccup ordeal -  3/4/2007
A chiropractor who grew up in Depew had a hand in helping a St. Petersburg, Fla., teenager stop hiccuping after 37 straight days. Dr. Eric Springer said he was part of a team of specialists - including an acupuncturist and a hypnotist - who helped bring relief to 15-year-old Jennifer Mee of St. Petersburg.

Paradise seeks redemption -  3/2/2007
Bryan Page and his wife once dreamed of building an entertainment center that would attract families and children of every age. When Page's Paradise Island Restaurant, Bar and Fun Center finally opened last year, its jewel was a tropical-themed pool with fountains and slides.

The Depew School District glady provided village officials the names of government students who helped residents clean their property after the October storm, thinking the high school students were going to get thank-you notes.

Insurance to cover some tree losses -  2/28/2007
Insurance money will enable the Town of Lancaster to replace some of the trees lost during the October storm, but not all of them. Supervisor Robert Giza said the town's insurance policy will cover the removal and stump grinding of lost trees and the planting of replacement trees throughout the town. But the trees must be within 1,000 feet of a town-owned building.

Schenk, Jaroszewski to lead departments -  2/27/2007
Cheektowaga Town Board members promoted two longtime employees to head the law and facilities departments Monday night. Kevin G. Schenk was named town attorney in a restructuring that saw Town Attorney Michael J. Stachowski and his deputy, Jennifer Ann Runfola, leave the Legal Department. The board also hired two new deputies, Kathleen McDonald and Paul S. Piotrowski, and moved current deputy Jeffrey L. Whiting to Town Hall from prosecutor.

Out-of-control driver on Thruway hits five cars -  2/26/2007
An elderly driver who lost control of his vehicle Sunday evening on the Thruway in Cheektowaga ended up driving in the wrong direction and hitting five cars before coming to a stop, state police reported.

Town Hall takes a pass on recycling -  2/26/2007
Cheektowaga Town Board members want to know why Town Hall doesn't recycle. "I can't speak for the whole Town Board, but I can certainly tell you I didn't know," Deputy Supervisor Jeff Swiatek said. "I find it surprising and disappointing."

Robber flees with $5,900 from Depew bank branch -  2/24/2007
Authorities are searching for woman in connection with a Friday morning bank robbery in Depew, village police said. The woman entered the Bank of America branch on Transit Road at about 10:45 a.m. and passed a note demanding money and claiming there was a bomb at the door of the bank.

Town seeks to halt loss of companies to Buffalo's Empire Zone enticements -  2/23/2007
Cheektowaga wants to require any company moving to an Empire Zone to prove it can't find a comparable site in the town. The town has lost four companies to Buffalo's Empire Zone because of the generous tax breaks the zones offer, and two more will likely move soon, Town Board members learned Thursday evening.
