Cheap midwinter insulation tricks -  3/4/2007
Soon after Halloween, Sandy Wymore of Smithville, Mo., began weatherproofing her large farmhouse in preparation for winter's onslaught. With the help of daughter Audrey Easley, Wymore covered the interiors of more than 15 windows along the north and west walls of her 4,400-square-foot home with thick, heavy-duty plastic. Over the plastic, Wymore hung curtains she made from quilts, providing an additional barrier to the cold.

EchoStar Communications Corp. said its fourth-quarter profit rose 15 percent to $152.6 million, or 35 cents per share, from $132.6 million, or 30 cents per share, during the same period a year ago. Quarterly revenue increased 17 percent to $2.58 billion from $2.20 billion. DISH Network added about 350,000 new subscribers during the quarter, giving the company 13.1 million subscribers as of Dec. 31, up about 1.1 million in a year.
