11 arrested in drug raid on Fillmore Avenue home -  3/4/2007
A Buffalo Police narcotics investigation resulted in the raid Saturday of a Fillmore Avenue residence and 11 arrests. Three men were charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia: Dwayne Carter, 42, of Fillmore Avenue; Nicholas Killian, 21, of Clarence Center; and Nathan Pullins, 55, of Genesee Street.

Authorities in Maryland on Saturday charged a 19-year-old man with murder and attempted armed robbery in the death of former Elma resident Kenneth J. Walter.

Attempted firebombing of home is investigated -  3/4/2007
Buffalo Police are trying to determine who tried to ignite a homemade firebomb at a home on Merrimac Street early Saturday. Police said someone attempted to ignite the device - a bottle filled with gasoline with a rag in it - around 1 a.m. A cup filled with gasoline was found next to the device. No damage was done to the house at 77 Merrimac.

City kids get a tubing snow day -  3/4/2007
Brandon Johnson felt as if he was speeding down a mountain at 100 mph. He enjoyed every second of it. Thanks to two area faith-based organizations, Brandon and more than 300 other Buffalo children spent a couple hours on Saturday playing in the snow, instead of bemoaning it.

Grandson of WWII vet wins $1,000 scholarship -  3/4/2007
Reuben Borowski of Cheektowaga was awarded a $1,000 scholarship Saturday by the Gen. Pulaski Association of the Niagara Frontier. Borowski is a student at the State University at Buffalo, where he majors in political science with a minor in international studies. He is the grandson of Walter Krakowiak, an Army veteran who was wounded by tank fire in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.

Artpark announces art and theater camps -  2/25/2007
LEWISTON - Artpark has openings for its 2007 schedule of professionally instructed, interactive children's summer art and theater camps. The weeklong camps start after Independence Day and run into early August, include a theater performance or art show on the final day, are limited to children ages 9 to 14, and cost $200.

Clay Street man, 21, beaten, robbed of $40 -  2/25/2007
A Clay Street man was robbed and beaten early Saturday at Military Road and Amherst Street. The 21-year-old victim said he was approached by three assailants at 2:15 a.m. The men stole $40 and a compact disc. One thief struck the victim with a pipe or stick, causing swelling to his arm.

Deputy saves dog clinging to edge of cliff -  2/25/2007
Good ol' Gus the dog. He was only trying to do his job and please his owner, when he fell off a cliff while chasing a rabbit in the Town of Hanover.

Dietitian takes own advice -  2/25/2007
Dawn Copperthite says she is heartened by the recent call for pin-thin fashion models to put on a few pounds. "It's encouraging that finally some people have stood up against these unrealistic ideals - a scary fantasy world," said Copperthite, who holds a degree in dietetics from Buffalo State College. "Nobody looks like the models in magazines."
